Activities Available on the Farm

Included in the Basic Rate

Many on-farm activities are available as an integral part of your basic farmstay.

Animals and Animal Activities [Top]

One major reason that people come to a farm is to see (and interact with) farm animals. Year-round animal residents are: horses, sheep, goats, chickens, dogs and cats. In the summer, we also have Alpaca (we board them for a friend).

Animal activities, in which you can participate, include: catching and grooming horses, moving the horse shelter and pasture (we practice rotational grazing), feeding the sheep, alpaca, and goats, feeding chickens and collecting eggs, moving the chicken shelter and pasture, playing ball or frisbee with the dogs, petting and feeding barn cats, etc. We have a dairy directly across the road from us, so you can see cows. We can take you to view milking at a local organic dairy, if you are interested.

Activities which you can watch, if you are lucky with timing, include: our Amish farrier putting shoes on our horses (every 6-weeks), our veterinarian giving vaccinations to various animals (1-3 times per year), or the Alpaca owner doing monthly maintenance (shots and foot-trimming) on her animals.

Other Activities [Top]

You can explore the barnyard, gardens, fields and woodlands (with, or without a farmer to be your guide), hike and relax on our many trails (self-guided, usually), play lawn games (bocce and croquet), fly kites (some usually available), play on the playground (swings and climbing ropes available), ride bikes (3-4 usually functional), engage in bird watching (many feeders on the property attract a wide variety of visitors), create a photo journal of your adventures, or take a horse-drawn wagon ride (available is dependent on health of horses and driver). We also provide "lolling and lollygagging" (simply "hanging out").

In the evening, you can star-gaze (there is no "light pollution" here, so the sky is amazingly clear on many nights) or gather in "Stonehenge" (woodland fire-pit area) to, talk, sing, listen to music and make S'Mores.

If you would like to see more photos of the farm, please visit our other web site which has a photo gallery and maps.

Not Just for Kids [Top]

While farm visits are popular with families with kids, you do not need to borrow a few kids in order to justify coming here for a visit. This is an ideal location for taking some "me" time -- to rest, restore, and re-charge your batteries. You can sleep in, meditate, read, meander, or exercise at your whim. Whether alone, with a partner, or with a few close friends, the peace and quiet are positively therapeutic.

Priced Individually [Top]

There are many other possibilities, in addition to the basic ones listed above. These are subject to discussion and negotiation (and must be priced individually).
